Before I was married or had kids, I always wanted to adopt a little girl. Age didn't really matter-baby or child. I love all things girly, even though growing up I was quite a bit of a tomboy! I babysat a lot growing up, but every summer I would watch two sisters for two weeks straight while their usual daycare provider was on vacation. I loved doing their hair, arts and crafts, and whatever else they were interested in each year.
Have you ever heard the saying "If you want to hear God laugh, tell him your plans?" Yup! It's true! God blessed me with having four boys! All natural, all ours, no adoptions, no girls. God knows best for sure! These boys have, and continue to teach me so much! They have helped me become more compassionate, more alert and on my toes! And man, our four boys are so individually different it amazes me every day!
I would describe our oldest child (Robert) as creative, mostly independent, an introvert at times (he doesn't do well in chaos, he needs time to recharge after being in a crowd.) smart, wise beyond his years, loving and caring. He loves legos, making army scenes with rocks, sticks and modeling clay and video games.
Our second son, Ben, who is 8 right now, is brilliant in his own ways, strong as Hulk, he has more energy than anyone I know, his ADHD brings a lot of impulsive behavior, but he is the first to bring an ice pack and a popsicle if someone is hurt, he loves being creative in the kitchen (some things even he won't eat that he created but he just keeps trying!) Like Einstein said " I will not say that I failed a 1000 times but that I found 1000 ways to fail." He is resilient and nothing slows him down!
Our third son was full of surprises! We weren't trying to have another when I got pregnant with AJ. Then found out through ultrasound that he would also be born with a clubfoot. Neither my husband or I really know what that meant or what it would entail. But I spent a lot of time researching it from the moment I found out. Truly, it was a lot of work in the moment, but I knew it was a fairly easy fix, and we had a great support system. Our family doctor recommended us to our pediatric orthopedic doctor and she has been wonderful! I also found a lot of encouragement from a clubfoot group on Facebook.
Our fourth blessing, Matthew, was also a surprise, but man, what a huge blessing he has been for our family. He really does complete our family and he loves being the baby of the bunch! He works the cuteness, the puppy eyes and snuggles, but he can be incredibly stubborn, sometimes cranky, selfish, loud and silly!
All together they make up the Burns' Boys. They are one of a kind and there's never a dull moment!
